Your vehicle’s water pump is a vital part of your car’s engine. A properly functioning water pump in your vehicle is essential to keep your engine at the appropriate temperature to prevent it from overheating and causing other damage. This component of your vehicle enables your engine to withstand tremendous heat by dispersing coolant or antifreeze in a cycle through the engine and to the radiator and back.
The timing belt or accessory belt in your vehicle is responsible for keeping your water pump running, so both components need to be maintained to ensure optimal water pump performance. Having your water pump failure can cause tremendous damage to your engine, which makes it an integral part of maintaining proper function of your vehicle. Water pump repair is one area of your vehicle that you don’t want to overlook.

How do I know if my water pump needs to be replaced?
Typically, water pumps last anywhere between 60,000 and 90,000 miles, however, this is dependent on the quality of water pump your vehicle has. Water pumps are typically replaced around the same time that either your timing belt or accessory belt needs to be replaced.
There are signs that will indicate the need for your water pump to be replaced. If you see coolant built up or dripping from your water pump then it is time for a new one. Also if your water pump begins to make unusual noises or squeaking, if your vehicle starts overheating, or if you find coolant in your driveway because it leaked from your engine, it is most likely due to a worn out or defective water pump.
Water Pump Replacement
Depending on the extent of the damage to the cooling system of your engine, we may suggest replacing the belts and hoses associated with your water pump as well. Upon replacement and installation of a new water pump, we will begin by draining the coolant from your engine. Then we will remove any other engine components that may hinder access to your water pump. Next, we will replace your water pump and all the hoses and belts associated with your cooling system. Finally, we will replace any other components we previously removed, followed by replacing antifreeze.
